Salvador is the home to the world’s largest African Diaspora Commuity. About 80% of the population is of African descent and this influence can be observed in various areas such as: cuisine, religion, music, dance, visual arts, among others.
To learn more about this rich influence, visit the Afro-Brazilian Museum located in Pelourinho, which portraits all the history of African colonization and immigration, with a collection focused on culture of African origin or African inspiration. The Afro-Brazilian Museum has been operating since 1982. Among the few museums of this nature in the country, the African Brazilian Museum is one of those dedicated to talking exclusively about this topic. The site features the works of various artists - especially the works of artist Carybé.
