The first Convention & Visitors Bureau was created in Detroit - United States in 1896. The emergence of the world‘s first convention was motivated by an article by journalist Milton Carmichael in the journal The Detroit Journal, February 6, 1896, which questioned the passivity of local entrepreneurs to the benefits of visitors coming to town.
